On February 9, the 2018 California-China Cleantech Partnership Roundtable Discussion, hosted by the State Government of California, supported by New Silicon Valley Offshore Incubator (liaison of Chinese incubators under this partnership), was held in San Ramon, California. Mr. Zhu Xuehua, Science & Technology Counselor of the Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco; Dr. Fan Dai, Special Advisor to Governor Brown; Mr. Michael Murza and Ms. Alana Sanchez of California Energy Commission and around 20 other representatives of cleantech research institutes and incubators attended the roundtable.
Dr. Cindy Cui, President of New Silicon Offshore Incubator, welcomed everyone and opened the discussion. She said New Silicon Valley Offshore Incubator is honored and happy to play a bridge role between California cleantech promoters, technology providers, research institutes and cleantech incubators and their counterparts in China, and to help build the California-Jiangsu Innovation Center in Nanjing. Dr. Robert Weisenmiller, Chair of California Energy Commission, introduced the work California has been doing in the areas of climate change, clean energy, and clean technology. He also pointed out that California and China should strengthen the collaborations in the areas of energy efficiency, energy storage, grid modernization, new Energy and zero emission vehicles, low carbon cities, Greenhouse emission and air pollution reduction, and carbon capture, utilization, and storage.
Following Chair Weisenmiller’s presentation, Dr. Fan Dai, Special Adviser to Governor Brown, introduced the progress with the California-China Cleantech Partnership Fund and the next steps. She acknowledged the role New Silicon Valley Offshore Incubator has been playing to connect relevant stakeholders from both sides to help implement the project. Mr. Michael Murza, the Law & Policy Advisor to Chair Weisenmiller, also gave a detailed introduction about the California-China cleantech Partnership, which includes its mission, objectives, network of partners and key components.
The meeting went very well. Participants from different organizations discussed the opportunities and challenges with California-China collaboration on cleantech and proposed many feasible suggestions. Based on these inputs and suggestions, New Silicon Valley Offshore Incubator will develop work plans accordingly and help move the California-China Cleantech Partnership forward.
